Dr. Ben was born on September 18, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. He didn’t grow up with a full family because his parents were divorced and that really affected his childhood but through perseverance and determination he was able to carve out a niche for himself.
He was trained by his mother Sonya Copeland who did everything she could as a mother to take care of her children and her motherly affection towards them guided them in the right direction.
Sonya always made them believe that there was hope for the future and the need to believe in themselves and not indulge in a bad life.
Ben actually heeded his mother’s advice, he took his college work seriously, which made him stand out as one of the best in his class during his high school years at Southwestern High School.
During his studies, he was honored as one of the best graduate students and his outstanding performance enabled him to attend the University. Ben went to Yale University and studied psychology and graduated in 1973.
After graduating from Yale University, BenCarson wanted to continue his education and earn a medical degree. He enrolled in medical school at Michigan State University and studied medicine, but also majored in neurosurgery. He received his Masters of Science from the University of Michigan.
