Mating and Gestation

Reproduction in Brazil capybaras occurs throughout the year, with peaks during the rainy season when food is abundant. Newborn capybaras are precocial, meaning they are relatively mature and mobile from birth. They are able to swim and follow their mothers within hours of being born, which increases their chances of survival in the wild.
