Willem Dafoe was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to a family of seven children. His parents, both devout Christians, instilled strong values in him from a young age. Growing up in a religious household, Dafoe initially pursued a career in ministry but eventually found his passion in acting.
After studying at the University of Wisconsin, he moved to New York City to pursue his acting dreams. His early years in the city were spent working with experimental theater groups, which helped him develop his unique style and approach to acting.
